In-Law Brawl
A free pixel-art family platform fighter for iPhone
Four family members, four fighters. Knock your opponent off the stage and take their stocks: the higher their DMG climbs, the farther they fly. Play against the computer on three difficulty levels, hand the phone to a family member for two-player on one screen, or fight other players online.
How to play
- Left thumb: the joystick moves your fighter. Hold it up, down or sideways while you press A or B to do a different move.
- Jump: jump, and jump again in the air.
- A: basic moves. Neutral A blocks (hold it). Side A is a punch you can charge for double damage. Up A is an overhead slap. Down A is a sliding kick.
- B: each fighter's special moves: neutral, side, up (recovery) and down.
- Hold down on the stick to drop through a platform on Standard Plus.
- Fall or get knocked off screen and you lose a stock. Lose all three and you are out.
Online play
- Tap ONLINE, pick a fighter and a stage, then FIND MATCH (a random opponent or an invitation, using Apple's Game Center screen) or FRIENDS to challenge one of your Game Center friends directly. They get a Game Center invitation.
- You need to be signed in to Game Center (Settings > Game Center). Both players see each other's Game Center name. There is no chat.
- The stage is a coin flip between both players' choices. After a match you can rematch with one tap.
- Your own buttons act immediately; the opponent's moves are predicted and corrected if needed (rollback), so a slow connection may make the opponent appear to jump slightly. The PING badge shows your connection.
- PRACTICE (on the ONLINE screen) plays against a computer opponent on your own phone with simulated lag, so you can try online play alone.
- If someone leaves the app or loses their connection for more than a few seconds, the other player is told and the match ends.
Questions
Is it really free? Yes. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no account of ours (online play uses your Game Center account).
Does it need internet? Only for online matches. Everything else works offline.
Online matches will not start. Check that you are signed in to Game Center, both players are on the latest version, and your connection is stable. Try PRACTICE to confirm the game itself works.
I found a bug. Email jbazordev@gmail.com with your iPhone model and what happened. Screenshots help.
